Communication & Conversations

Management Development: Effective Communication Techniques

Overview

This session builds clarity and impact into everyday conversations. It focuses on active listening, 1:1 meetings, and giving and receiving feedback in a way that strengthens working relationships and performance.

It’s a practical session designed to help people communicate more clearly, reduce misunderstandings and address issues earlier.

Who this workshop is for

This session is a strong fit if you:

  • want to improve day-to-day communication and reduce friction
  • lead people and want more purposeful 1:1s
  • want a clearer structure for feedback conversations
  • value practical skills and real examples over theory-heavy content

  • Practical tools to improve clarity and understanding

Active listening

  • Recognising common listening traps

1:1 meetings that work

  • What makes a 1:1 effective

Feedback (giving and receiving)

  • How to give feedback clearly and respectfully
  • Receiving feedback well
  • Scenario activity (with options that suit the group)

What you'll leave with

How it works

The session blends short teaching inputs with discussion and scenario application. Role play (where used) is optional and handled in a supportive, confidence-building way.

Adapting the session

This session is tailored to the context, challenges and experience level of the group. The outline above gives a sense of the core themes, while examples, activities and emphasis are adapted to meet your organisation's needs.

What participants say

  • “It was valuable that any role play was voluntary — it made practice feel supportive rather than forced.”
  • “The most helpful part for me was learning how to present feedback clearly.”
  • “I found it valuable being able to share experiences with the trainer and with colleagues.”
  • “A key takeaway is that I’m going to change how I communicate with colleagues and the people we support.”
