In hospitality, people get promoted because they're brilliant on the floor, behind the bar or on the pass, not because anyone has trained them to manage people. One week they're part of the team; the next they're running a shift, holding the standards and having awkward conversations with the people they used to work alongside.
So they lead the only way they know how: by doing the job themselves and hoping everyone follows. Front of house and the kitchen end up working to different rules. Standards depend on who is on the rota. Small issues get ignored until they become big ones and new starters are left to pick things up as they go.
Meanwhile, your team is dealing with customers, delivery drivers and suppliers all day and late into the night, often where alcohol is involved, and often without anyone having talked to them about what to do when someone crosses a line.
The cost of leaving it
People rarely leave a job; they leave a manager. In an industry where staff retention is already the biggest headache, every resignation means more recruitment, more training and more shifts covered by an already stretched team.
When every manager does things their own way, guests get a different experience depending on who's on. It shows up in your reviews, your repeat bookings and your margins.
From 30th October 2026, employers must take all reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment, and can be held liable when staff are harassed by third parties such as customers and suppliers. Customer-facing hospitality teams are among the most exposed.
Since October 2024, tribunals can increase sexual harassment compensation where an employer hasn't taken reasonable steps to prevent it. "We didn't think it would happen here" isn't a defence; clear expectations and regular training are.
How we help
Cornerstone Resources is an HR and L&D consultancy. We help hospitality businesses build confident, consistent and safe teams in three ways: a bitesize leadership programme for the people running your shifts, sexual harassment prevention training for your whole team, and bespoke training designed around your venue.
Hospitality leadership training
A six-week bitesize hospitality leadership programme that helps the people running your shifts lead confidently while still doing the job.
Rather than taking managers off the floor for a full day, the programme is delivered as six short, focused 30-minute sessions. Each one concentrates on a single leadership topic, with time between sessions to put it into practice on shift. The emphasis is on what good leadership looks like day to day, not on singling out individual issues.
Across the sessions, your leaders learn to:
We recommend bringing front of house leads, kitchen leads, bar supervisors and managers together, so everyone leaves with shared expectations and a common language. If you'd prefer, we can start with your managers only.
Talk to us about the programmeProgramme structure
Each bitesize session goes deeper on one theme, rather than covering everything at a high level, so the learning feels manageable and relevant, and fits naturally around shifts.

Hospitality teams bring together people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Every session takes an inclusive, practical approach to communication styles and expectations, avoiding misunderstandings on shift and making sure messages land consistently. The focus is on clarity and consistency, not on changing personalities.

Having just taken over the management of a small company after working in the NHS for over 20 years I felt very much out of my depth with no HR department to call on. I was then recommended Cornerstone Resources who have been amazing. I cannot speak highly enough of them. Their availability, information, support, patience and advice at just the right level I am so grateful for. I certainly can recommend them to anyone who is looking for HR support.

Your Hospitality GroupOur HR services and consultancy are with Cornerstone Resources, and we have had a brilliant experience, with very patient, responsive and knowledgeable support from Rob, and it really feels like he's part of our organisation, not a separate entity. Their support during the shutdown and changing environment of employment laws has been timely and informative, and we're really happy to recommend them for guidance and support.

Fix8 GroupI've worked with Rob on an employment issue and found him to be extremely professional, both in his understanding of the case and also the manner in which it was handled. As a small business with no HR department, in the future it'll be beneficial to be able to call on his expertise and navigate through various issues as they arise, knowing there will be a cost effective solution available.

Swift Tree ServicesWe joined at a time when there was a lot of what felt like high stakes HR issues unfolding. Heather made it all feel very straightforward. She talked to us in simple English (no jargon!) and outlined our options and the potential risks associated with each of them. She's been with us every step of the way, whether by email or phone call. Would recommend Cornerstone 100%

TrustpilotHighly recommend Cornerstone to anyone looking for HR support. They have been hugely helpful to our charity over the last few years, most recently helping us with the recruitment of a key staff role. The way Nicci has made the effort to really understand us as an organisation has been so valuable, and the communication, professionalism, and responsiveness from her has been outstanding. It's resulted in the recruitment of a brilliant new staff member that we're thrilled to have on board.

GoogleWould highly recommend, brilliant service. Employed Cornerstone Resources for a complex disciplinary case recently and I couldn't have been more thankful for their guidance and expertise. Julie was the Senior Consultant I worked with, and she was wonderful. I was so impressed by how quickly she understood the intricacies of the case and the people involved. I'm very grateful to Julie for being able to work on the case with such little notice. As a small business owner, I felt out of my depth with the complex disciplinary case - Julie relieved a lot of the stress for me, from the moment she jumped on board.

Couldn't imagine being without their support now.

TrustpilotSexual harassment prevention training
Your staff deal with the public every day: customers who've had a drink, regulars who overstep, and suppliers and delivery drivers coming through the back door. Sexual harassment prevention training gives everyone, from new starters to the general manager, the confidence to recognise it, respond to it and report it.
We deliver our sexual harassment prevention training in-house for hospitality businesses, so your whole team hears the same message using examples from your own venue. It's one of the clearest ways to show you've taken the reasonable steps the law expects, especially now the Employment Rights Act 2025 makes employers liable for harassment by customers and other third parties.
In-house training for your team includes:
Bespoke in-house sessions from £595 + VAT. Retained HR clients can use their monthly hours instead.

Bespoke training programmes
A gastropub, a city-centre cocktail bar and a family-run café face very different people challenges, so off-the-shelf courses rarely fit.
Work with our Learning & Development consultant to design a training programme around your specific context and requirements, whether that's one management team or a group of sites. We start by understanding your venues, your people and what's getting in the way, then build training that fits your service style, your standards and your rota.

Your questions answered
We offer three main options for pubs, bars, restaurants and cafés: Everyday Leadership Skills for Hospitality Managers, a six-week bitesize leadership programme; sexual harassment prevention training, delivered in-house for your team or through our open sessions; and bespoke training programmes designed with our Learning & Development consultant around your venue and team.
Anyone who leads or supervises people: general and assistant managers, bar managers and supervisors, front of house leads, head chefs and kitchen leads. Bringing these roles together builds shared expectations and a common language across front and back of house. If you'd prefer, we can deliver it to your managers only to begin with.
Each session is 30 minutes, live online, and designed to be joined on a phone or laptop. Sessions run weekly or fortnightly in a consistent time slot, which supports attendance while leaving flexibility around your rota.
The six-session leadership programme is £1,095 + VAT, and a shorter four-session version (choose any four of the six topics) is £745 + VAT. Bespoke in-house sexual harassment prevention sessions start from £595 + VAT, and open sessions are £395 + VAT. Bespoke programmes are quoted after a free scoping call.
Since October 2024, employers have had a legal duty to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment of their staff, and tribunals can increase compensation where they haven't. The Employment Rights Act 2025 strengthens this to "all reasonable steps" from 30th October 2026 and makes employers liable for harassment by third parties, such as customers and suppliers. ACAS strongly recommend training as one of the clearest reasonable steps a hospitality business can take.
Yes. Our sexual harassment prevention training and bespoke programmes can be delivered for your team alone, with examples and scenarios drawn from your venue. The leadership programme is delivered live online, so staff across different shifts and sites can join.
Yes. Retained HR clients can use their monthly hours instead of paying separately: 10.5 hours for the six-session leadership programme or 7 hours for the four-session version.
